Fire on Hillside Dr. on 12/12/2022

MEDIA RELEASE:
Monday, December 12, 2022 just after 2 pm.
South Windsor 9-1-1 Center Received a call reporting an oven fire from a home on Hillside Drive. The SWFD was dispatched at 2:10pm. The first Engine (Engine 6) arrived with a full crew at 2:14pm - just 4 minutes after the 9-1-1 call and found fire in the rear of the home, auto extending out of the rear kitchen window as well as out of the slider glass door and declared a “working fire” which puts into place automatic assistance from our mutual aid Fire Departments and notification to utility services.
Car 10 (Chief Cooney) arrived moments after Engine 6 and ordered a 2nd Alarm fire. The 2nd alarm directs mutual aid Fire Departments directly to the scene and additional Fire Departments to provide jurisdictional coverage from Fire Headquarters. An Engine from the Hazardville Fire Department (Enfield) was traveling through SW, returning from coverage in Vernon and were also requested to the scene. SWFD provided three Engines, Rescue 5, Cars 10, 11, 19, 39, Support FP9, and UT13 with 15 Firefighters in total. The on-scene assistance was provided by the Manchester Fire Rescue EMS / Professional Firefighters of Manchester/Local 1579, Warehouse Point Fire Department, Broad Brook Fire Department, Hazardville Fire District, South Windsor Police Department, Ambulance Service of Manchester, andSouth Windsor Fire Marshal's Office.
Thanks to the strong and aggressive fire attack by the initial arriving members, the bulk of the fire was extinguished within ten minutes of arrival at 2:32pm.
Unfortunately, the home suffered severe fire damage to approximately half of the interior of the home with smoke and heat damage to most of the living area. There were no injuries to either two residents or any Fire Service members. The fire origin and cause investigation is being conducted by the Fire Marshal’s Office. The Red Cross was on scene assisting the residents with immediate needs.
Shorty after this incident was dispatched, an additional SWFD incident was dispatched for a fire alarm at the Community Center and handled by Car 15 with covering Departments.
Jurisdictional coverage was provided by Manchester Fire Dept. 8th Dist., The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department (CT), and Windsor Volunteer Fire Department - CT.
This incident was followed by many members just returning from assisting the Town of Vernon Fire Department all morning.
