Members of various fire departments in the area as well as some citizens have been receiving text messages from an unknown party soliciting the sale of South Windsor Fire Department T-Shirts. Please be aware that this is not done on behalf of or with the consent of the SWFD. Generally speaking, the SWFD does not solicit the public to help raise funds and no proceeds from these sales are provided to the department.
The South Windsor Fire Department is being falsely represented by these individuals.
If you have any concerns about any alleged SWFD solicitation, contact the Chief's Office: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

As you all know, this year is twenty (20) years since the attack of September 11th.

Thanks to the efforts of Eric Hofmann (BSA Eagle Scout Project), the Hofmann Family, and the SWFD, we have an incredible memorial for all to reflect.

With so many ceremonies planned for Saturday, we will be hosting a brief Remembrance Ceremony on FRIDAY, September 10th at 6:00pm.

As the majority of Storm Henri has passed - the day could not come to an end without publicly THANKING each and every member of the SWFD for dedication, professionalism, and kindness.
Dozens of members spent the day away from their families and own personal storm related issues to serve the Department and Community.
Throughout the day they remained vigil and responded to incidents and as we dismissing them, we responded to the Mill to assist. They spent additional hours making the business safe again.
Not one single member does this for thanks or praise, but as their proud Chief, I will say THANK YOU!!!
Thank you to your families as well as they managed things at home during these storms.
Hand Salute!

Due to storm Isaias the Department meeting was cancelled last week.

Tonight, following the weekly training drill, Company Three Officers (Captain Carlo Piacentini and Lieutenant Tia Cortese) present probationary Firefighter Sarah Cooney her “yellow” helmet.

The “yellow” helmet indicates a fully certified/interior Firefighter and no longer probationary. Congrats Sarah!
SWFD Family traditions continue as Captain Carlo Piacentini is part of a 4th Generation family and Firefighter Sarah Cooney is part of a 3rd Generation family as her Dad, Chief Kevin Cooney attended.

Yellow helmets are presented after completion of mandatory Firefighter I training.  Probationary firefighters are issued a black helmet which signifies non-interior qualification.  Upon completion of Firefighter I, they receive their

During a time when social distancing, self-quarantining, and staying healthy at all costs seems the most important thing on the table, even organizations like ours need to go through serious changes. Being 100% volunteer, the SWFD relies on members who have full-time jobs outside of the Fire Department. Many also being essential workers, the Department needs to implement everything it can to ensure the town is protected, but also ensure its members ...can survive in their normal lives.

The Department originally made the decision to suspend all in-person training. This was done in an effort to limit any unnecessary person-to-person contact while we were at the peak of the virus. If members got sick, our ability to respond to emergencies would degrade. The Training Division took that opportunity to be creative, and “SWFD Training Minutes”, a video training series, was established. So far, the Training Division has 5 episodes made, and the videos have been disseminated to the membership
