Thursday, October 13, 2022 just prior to midnight, the South Windsor Dispatch Center received notification of a fire alarm (smoke detector-2nd floor) for 200 Deming Street, The Residence at South Windsor Farms, an assisted living facility. The SWFD was dispatched and immediately followed up with 9-1-1 calls from the facility reporting smoke in the 2nd floor hallway.
Within minutes, the SWFD and South Windsor Police Department arrived and confirmed the smoke condition.
Initial fire crews quickly and very thoroughly investigated and found the issue isolated to the internal electrical components of a dryer in the 2nd floor laundry room.
No residents needed to be evacuated and safely isolated in their rooms supported by facility staff.
The incident is under investigation by the South Windsor Fire Marshal's Office.
The incident drew a full response from the SWFD: (E2/6, E4, E3, T1, R5, FP9, Cars 14/IC, 10, and 15) due the potential life safety hazard.
During this incident, a second fire alarm was dispatched for the newly opened Cambria Suite Hotel.
