Earlier this afternoon the SWFD responded to 90 Brookfield Street to assist Environmental Services, Inc. with an isolated potential hazardous materials incident.
In the front of a 53’ trailer were six (6) 55 gallon drums that were filled with an uncertain liquid that was causing the drums to expand.
As precautions, the SWFD stood by with crews as well as a tanker from The Ellington Volunteer Fire Department (CT).
Representatives from DEEP and the Regional Haz Mat team responsed to assist.
Also in support on scene was South Windsor Police Department and Ambulance Service of Manchester with station coverage provided by both Manchester Fire Department 8th District and Broad Brook Fire Department.
Ultimately, technicians from ESI entered the trailer and mitigated the situation with the drums.
At no time was any evacuation needed and there was never a hazard to the public.
