Fire Gas Station 1/17/2019

On 1/17/2019, this afternoon, the SWFD responded to the parking lot of a gas station on Sullivan Avenue for a vehicle fire. There was no damage or extension to any part of the gas station/pumps, and the vehicle was unoccupied. SWPD is investigating the cause of the fire.

Fire 1/8/2019

MEDIA RELEASE:  Tuesday, January 8, 2019 this afternoon just after 4pm (16:02 hours) the South Windsor Dispatch Center received 911 calls reporting a possible house fire with smoke from the side/roof of the house.  

Within a few minutes a SWPD Officer arrived and confirmed smoke and visible fire.

20190108FirePetsThe home was secured, but the Officer and a citizen could hear dogs inside. The Officer and citizen attempted to enter, but the smoke condition was to intense. With the door open they were able to call for the dogs and all three dogs were safely assisted out of the home.

SWFD responded with 3 engine companies, 1 aerial truck, 1 rescue truck, and approx. 25 firefighters. The Incident Commander, Deputy Chief Carlo Piacentini, prior to arrival, realized the area had limited hydrants and requested mutual aid for an additional 2 fire engines, one from Manchester 8th District FD and one from Manchester Fire-Rescue-EMS.

 Crews, simultaneously performed numerous tasks – 2 hose lines extinguishing the fire, vertical ventilation and search. Three (3) cats were located and treated on scene with donated pet oxygen masks and with assistance from the SWPD Community Service/Animal Control Officer, transported to local emergency vet.
