Structural Shoring

Today, 4/30/19, SWFD responded to a report of a car into a building off Buckland Road. No injuries occurred inside the building, and the driver was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

When the vehicle struck the building, a structural member to an overhang above the entrance was compromised. To ensure it did not collapse and injure someone before it could be repaired, members from Rescue 5 and Engine 2 constructed a T-Spot Shore.

Shoring is typically built-to-fit out of wood while on scene, or performed with various struts and pneumatic systems. While this operation was relatively minor, shoring capabilities extend from stabilizing overturned vehicles and weakened building components to supporting entire floors and buildings.
