Today, April 3, 2019, shortly before 5:00 PM, the SWFD was dispatched to a reported brush fire on Clark Street near the post office.
On arrival, Engine 2 located a very large brush fire approximately 600 feet off the main road. The fire covered approximately 4 acres.
Over the next two hours, South Windsor Firefighters, accompanied by Brush/Forestry Units from Manchester 8th District FD and Broad Brook Fire Departments, battled the fire. Companies were able to contain the fire to the general area and stopped the possibility of extension to nearby structures and homes on Clark Street.
While units fought the brush fire, other available crews in South Windsor as well as an Engine from Manchester 8th District FD handled both a dumpster fire and a motor vehicle accident.
No injuries resulted from any of the incidents, and the cause of the brush fire is under investigation by the South Windsor Fire Marshal’s Office. Any questions as to cause and origin can be directed to them.
