Wednesday 4/17/19 – Motor Vehicle Accident
At approximately 3:35 PM today, SWFD along with South Windsor Police Department and Ambulance Service of Manchester responded to a single-vehicle accident, off the road and down an embankment in the area of Route 5 and Governor’s Highway.
Upon arrival, Car 19 found one individual trapped in a heavily damaged, rolled over sedan. Members off Engine 3, Engine 4, and Rescue 5 worked to stabilize the vehicle, a difficult task based on the vehicle’s location. Once stabilized, extrication was started.
Due to the heavy damage to the vehicle, it’s position, and the limited access from the terrain, members had to get creative with making an access point to the patient. Approximately 15 minutes later, the extrication was successful, the victim was removed and was transferred into the care of ASM with only minor injuries.
The South Windsor Police Department is investigating the cause of the crash.
